Gugabire Janviere & Umurerwa Divine

Janviere wishes to tell her sister Divine about all of the hardships that she has faced in her life, including her difficulties with her school, her friends, and her marriage. Yet despite all of these struggles, she trusted God, found people to help her, and most importantly, she had endurance. Divine learned a lot from her sister, and she said that she will continue to pray that God helps her throughout the rest of her life.

Gahongaire Emelda & Sharangabo Jean de Dieu

Emelda decided to become a Pastor after witnessing the love for God that her grandfather had. After the genocide, she decided to serve God by helping orphans, and she adopted Jean de Dieu, who she considers to be her own son. Jean de Dieu has many questions about the causes of the genocide, and Emelda patiently answers his questions and gives him advice. She tells him that the most important thing is to love God and fight against anything that could lead to genocide again.

Theopista Mukamana& Marie Claire Umuvandimwe

Claire asks a most interesting and bold question of her elder, Theopista: “In which time did you get hurt the most, and in which one were you happiest?” Her answer is not what is expected. In discussing her life, some of it spent in severe poverty, we learn that Theopista’s life took many sudden turns, from several tragic situations, to a more positive present. Claire is not shy to ask important questions from the role of curses, to how to choose a good partner.
“As an old person, what type of advice can you give me? Because I think I in a situation that you once went through.”

Kabalesi Donatha & Binta Samantha

Samantha asks her aunt, Kabalesi Donatha , to tell the story of her life so far. She learns that, while the aunt’s parents loved her, they could not easily support her love for school. So she married, it was difficult and ended, and health problems followed. But Donatha found that her faith was a great source of advice to her, and she wishes to pass on this to her niece. Samantha puts her dilemmas squarely to her aunt—that the life of a young person is full of temptations, especially when the yearning in Rwanda is so much for life!

Nyinawabagesera Amandine & Uwimana Jean Claude

After being orphaned by the genocide, Amandine risked going to school without supplies, and was befriended. Friends, and her faith enabled her to combat drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. This led to a working life, a home, and a resolve to help other orphans like herself who almost lost all hope.
